DBT PROGRAM
Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT, is a structured treatment that helps people understand their emotions, manage distress, improve relationships, and respond more effectively during difficult situations. DBT skills are practical tools that can be practiced in everyday life rather than only discussed during therapy sessions.
DBT was originally developed for borderline personality disorder, but DBT principles are now also used to support people experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, intense emotions, impulsive reactions, and difficulty coping with stress. Our virtual program provides DBT therapy in Delaware and Maryland for clients who want a structured and practical approach to creating meaningful change.
THE Approach
The DBT basics are organized into four main areas: DBT mindfulness, DBT distress tolerance skills, DBT emotion regulation skills, and DBT interpersonal effectiveness. Clients learn DBT coping skills and DBT communication skills for managing strong emotions, getting through difficult moments, setting healthier boundaries, and improving relationships.
The program includes a once-weekly DBT group focused on learning and practicing new skills, along with DBT worksheets for use between sessions. Clients also have a 20- to 30-minute check-in call with their therapist during the week and attend individual therapy when they are not already working with another individual therapist.
PACED TO YOU
You do not have to master every skill immediately. We focus on the areas affecting you most and help you practice each skill until it becomes easier to use in daily life.
Lasting impact
The goal is not only to get through the next difficult moment. DBT can help you build healthier coping patterns, stronger relationships, and greater confidence managing emotions over time.
